Data Sources
How circlefinder uses open business and place data responsibly.
How We Use Source Data
circlefinder uses public and open datasets as lead/source material for local business and place discovery. We keep source and license metadata in our operator tools, then enrich listings with first-party websites, business claims, and admin review when available.
We distinguish provider-seeded fields from website-verified and business-claimed fields so that imported facts do not become an untraceable blob. This page provides global attribution and licensing information; record-specific source details are currently kept in admin/operator views.
Overture Maps Places
Our business discovery dataset is based on the Overture Maps Places theme, a GeoParquet dataset of real-world places. Suggested citation: Overture Maps Foundation, overturemaps.org.
Overture Places is multi-source and multi-license. We preserve source-provider and license metadata with the imported records and include the relevant license references below.
Provider and License Summary
- Meta, Microsoft, PinMeTo, Krick, RenderSEO, DAC, and BrightQuery data are listed by Overture as available under CDLA-Permissive-2.0.
- Foursquare-sourced Overture rows are available under Apache-2.0 and require NOTICE preservation.
- AllThePlaces-sourced Overture rows are available under CC0-1.0.
Foursquare Notice
Foursquare OS Places data is licensed under Apache-2.0. When Foursquare-sourced rows are included, we preserve attribution and NOTICE information, including:
© 2026 Foursquare Labs, Inc. All rights reserved.
We may normalize, filter, combine, and enrich source records for circlefinder. Where required, those changes are treated as Circlefinder modifications to the provider-seeded data.
Provider-Seeded, Website-Verified, and Business-Claimed Fields
- Provider-seeded fields come from open place datasets such as Overture Places.
- Website-verified fields are confirmed from a business or venue website.
- Business-claimed fields are supplied or confirmed through circlefinder business tools.
As listings mature, website-verified and business-claimed information can supersede provider-seeded facts while preserving the original source trail for audit and correction.
Corrections and Opt-Out
If a business listing is inaccurate, stale, or should be removed, use our existing business feedback and opt-out channels. Start with business opt-out information or contact support.
Legal Review
This page is a transparency and attribution summary. It is not legal advice. We benchmark this language against upstream Overture, Foursquare, CDLA, Apache, and Creative Commons guidance and review production copy as the dataset evolves.
